Morskie Oko (The Eye of the Sea) is the largest and most beautiful lake in the Tatras. It lies at 1396 metres above sea level, its surface area is almost 35 hectares, and its deepest point is 50m.
Every day, multitudes of tourists make their way on foot or in horse-drawn carts to the hostel at Morskie Oko. The road itself does not hold much appeal- a crowded, monotonous asphalt road – but all effort and discomfort is rewarded when you reach your destination. The view over the lake and the panorama surrounding it takes your breath away. From this vantage point, you can admire the highest peaks in the tatras: Rysy, Mięguszowieckie Szczyty, Mnich.
